Join STAR in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and let’s stand together against the abuse, mistreatment, and neglect of older people.

The theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day this year was ‘Turn up the Volume!’ . It's a a rallying cry for all of us to raise our voices, create positive change, and develop solutions to the challenges facing many older Australians.

Elder abuse is any act within a relationship of trust which results in harm to an older person. Much of elder abuse is committed by family members including sons, daughters, spouses, or grandchildren.

Forms of elder abuse can vary and take shape as financial, emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, or social abuse. Abuse can vary in severity from subtle through to extreme or combined.
