Whether it’s a free morning tea, online Q&A, or a walk organised through the local school or council, individuals and groups will wear WEAAD signature purple and meet to help shine a light on the harm and prevalence of elder abuse, how we can recognise it, call it out and, ultimately, help solve it.
Elder abuse takes many forms. When someone in a position of trust causes harm to an older person it is considered elder abuse. This harm can be through neglect or physical, emotional, sexual, social, or financial abuse. Recent national news stories have reported shocking, high-profile cases. But the majority of elder abuse goes unnoticed, unreported, or ignored. Through activities and advocacy WEAAD tries to change that.
