This new Monash University study seeks to
investigate elder abuse in regional, rural, and remote areas in Australia
identify types of abuse experienced and
explore the unique impact of geographic isolation on abuse victims and perpetration
This project will engage advocates, practitioners, and individuals with lived experience to understand abuse impacts and barriers to support provision.
Research outputs will inform enhanced, targeted response models for elder abuse in regional, rural, and remote areas.
We are now recruiting people who have worked, advocated, volunteered, or contributed to an organisation that works with people experiencing elder abuse.
This phase of the research will involve discussion of elder abuse in regional, rural, and remote locations and challenges in, and opportunities to, address this harm.
Participation will involve a virtual (Zoom) audio recorded focus group, which will take approximately 60 minutes of your time.
We are planning to conduct focus groups in October or November of 2024.
This study has been approved by the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 43926)
