The project involves a national survey of residential care workers and in-depth research at 19 facilities across Queensland and Western Australia, operated by our partners GRAI - GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc. and Amana Living.
By integrating surveys, observations, and interviews, our research will identify what currently supports and challenges the provision of inclusive care.
A pivotal aspect of this project is the co-creation of an inclusive care model with LGBTQ+ people.
This collaborative approach ensures that the voices and needs of gender and sexually diverse individuals are at the heart of our model. The developed care model, along with comprehensive guidelines and resources for implementation, will be evaluated in partner homes to assess their effectiveness and sustainability. Our primary goal is to design and implement a care model that not only embraces inclusivity but also sets a benchmark for aged care services nationwide. By involving universities such as Edith Cowan University and organisations deeply rooted in the community, we aim to ensure that our strategies and outputs resonate well beyond the academic realm and make a tangible difference in people's lives.
It’s funded by the Australian government through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) and will run March 2024 - November 2025
