Age is No Barrier

Council on the Ageing Queensland hosted the Age is No Barrier debate - panellists debated and discussed the experiences and expectations of older Queenslanders about ageism.

Moderated by Age Discrimination Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM, in front of an audience of 100, the event highlighted the urgent need for a United Nations Convention on the Rights of Older Adults, focusing on human rights, age discrimination, and the growing prevalence of elder abuse.

The debate addressed diverse issues such as employment opportunities, the need for dignity and respect in the workforce, ageism in healthcare and aged care systems, and elder abuse.

Panellists presented arguments both for and against the notion that age is a barrier with immense expertise and good humour.
