Training eModule: Recognising, Responding and Reporting of Abuse of the Older Person - For managers

This training emodule is designed with the aim to be used across Australia. It informs managers, service providers and professionals, of the best methods to follow their legal responsibility to escalate, respond and report any suspected witnessed or disclosed allegations of elder abuse.

On completing this course, you will be able to:

  • identify signs and behaviours of suspected or alleged abuse

  • understand the difference between witnessed, suspected and disclosed abuse

  • demonstrate knowledge of privacy, confidentiality and disclosure

  • assess and manage risk to the older person

  • understand reporting requirements and pathways

  • demonstrate knowledge of different interpretations of abuse and the importance of recognising different value systems

  • understand barriers that older people may face to access safety

  • recognise the unique role of older people within Aboriginal culture

  • record concerns and actions taken according to organisational requirements

  • support people experiencing suspected abuse and plan for safety

  • complete reporting requirements

  • contribute to systems, procedures and information sharing
