Office of Multicultural Interests

OMI provides advice, funding, training, and support to help build strong, culturally diverse communities that participate actively in all aspects of Western Australian life.

We are part of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. OMI works to achieve the full potential of multiculturalism in Western Australia.

OMI develops strategies that include everyone — culturally diverse communities, the wider community, business and industry groups, government and non-government agencies — to help develop a society that values and maximises the benefits of its cultural diversity.

Our strategies help organisations to develop policies, programs, and services that are accessible and responsive to the needs of a diverse community.

The State Government proudly acknowledges and celebrates our cultural diversity as one of our State’s great strengths and actively plans for a future that captures its potential.

On our website you can access information and resources to help you participate in all aspects of the social, economic, and cultural life of our great State.

Western Australia is one of the most diverse States in Australia with almost one-third (31%) of our population born overseas. More than half (52%) have at least one parent born overseas and three-quarters (75%) identify that they have a non-Australian ancestry.

OMI is not responsible for citizenship, visa or immigration matters. For information about immigration or becoming an Australian citizen, please contact the Department of Home Affairs by phone 13 18 81.
